Flu A and B tests, also known as rapid influenza diagnostic tests (RIDTs) or flu antigen tests, detect the presence of influenza A and B viral antigens in respiratory samples. These tests work by detecting antigens, which are parts of the flu virus that trigger an immune response. RIDTs are the most common type of flu test and usually involve inserting a swab into the nostril to collect a sample. A healthcare provider can help determine if a flu test is needed based on symptoms, which include: fever, cough, sore throat, runny or stuffy nose, body aches, headache, chills, and fatigue. Other symptoms that may occur include: Vomiting and diarrhea, more common in children Dizziness Flushed face Lack of energy Nausea RSV is a common and highly contagious respiratory infection that affects the lungs, nose, and throat. It usually causes mild, cold-like symptoms, but can lead to serious breathing problems in some people. *Symptoms that may indicate the need for an RSV test include: Fever, Wheezing, Bad cough, Fast, abnormal, or troubled breathing, and Blue skin.
