This test screens for the presence of antibodies to herpes simplex virus (HSV) types 1 and 2. HSV-1 and HSV-2 are common viral infections that can cause oral and/or genital herpes which are lifelong, chronic infections. Most people with HSV do not present with symptoms. This test detects IgG antibodies specific to HSV types 1 and 2, indicating previous exposure to HSV-1 and/or HSV-2.
